Your audience is a college admissions counselor tasked with reading 50 essays per day...how will your story stand out?
The personal essay is the centerpiece to your application because it is the story of you that fits all of the pieces of your application together. Your unique set of characteristics, skills, talents, values, and experiences are woven into an introspective piece of writing. Through conversation and reflection, an essay theme evolves into paragraphs that highlight your strengths, values, passions, contributions and vision for the future. Consider the singular purpose of the essay--to understand you as a person. This is your introduction to a new community...what do they need to know that is not already present in your application?
You will be pushed to write boldly, at your writing level, using your voice with humor, creativity, imagery, metaphors, or dialogue to capture your essence.
College Essay FAQs
-
While students think they need to come in with some ideas on what they could be writing about, we actually prefer that they have not started in advance. This encourages students to consider new ideas rather than fixate on what they have previously written. With freedom of thought, the writing progresses, and the essay’s direction evolves too.
Our process involves pre-writing exercises and brainstorming sessions to uncover unique essay topics that may not have been previously considered. This method often leads to more impactful essays and helps generate material for the supplemental essays many colleges require. Students who are open to exploring new directions in their personal statements typically find that their applications become more authentic and memorable.
-
No, you do not need to come to us with a prompt; in fact, you will be asked to write to several prompts before deciding on your essay topic.
-
Writing a strong personal statement always takes longer than one might plan for. Depending on where you are applying and how important the essays are going to be, you should set aside writing time. Writing the main essay can take anywhere from 6-10 active hours, over a period of several days. Allow enough time to be reflective, work through the pre-writing exercises, and write several revisions before editing and publishing.
-
Some kids feel free to share their essays as they are writing, while others feel their topics are too private or personal to share with anyone except their essay coaches. Either way, it is important that your child only receives feedback from the essay coach. If your student is enrolled in our essay process, we will let you know if there is any concern regarding the quality of the essay. Allowing each student’s own expression of ideas to come through in the essay is best, though students and coaches can reach out to you for support as needed.

Essays are about bringing out an aspect of yourself that adds personality and brings purpose to your college application. A good essay coach will coax you to look deeper into your experiences and the value systems that make you special. We all have life experiences that are uniquely ours, no matter how commonplace we feel our lives might be. A good writing coach may make you laugh at the past or cry with you over your heartaches on the way to a powerful essay.
A machine could help refine the language of a draft but will never be able to bring out the voice that define your learning and growth.

We’ve found that virtual sessions help students stay more organized, engaged, and focused. Using screen sharing and collaborative tools, we’re able to provide real-time feedback, guide brainstorming, and track revisions efficiently—all the while keeping the process low-stress and highly personalized.
Virtual meetings can be anywhere from a 15-minute check in to an hour long session. They offer the flexibility students need during a busy season. With summer travel, school prep, and activities in full swing, virtual coaching allows for consistent progress without the logistics of commuting. Students are given a preliminary schedule at the beginning, but as the work gets underway, the essay coach will recommend meetings depending upon the work at hand and upcoming deadlines.
Your essay coach is always a Zoom meeting away.

While our essay coaches are highly skilled in reviewing and editing completed essays, our approach goes beyond just polishing what’s already written. We view the entire college application as a cohesive narrative, with each component interconnecting to tell a compelling story. That’s why we encourage students to come to us ready to explore and be introspective, not with finished essays that need another look.
Our trained coaches stay true to our unique process. Moving through the steps from initial pre-writing to finished product helps your student construct the most authentic personal statement which is why we do not edit/revise essays written previously or assisted by someone else.

Your starting point…
Self-reflection is a daunting task for anyone, let alone with a deadline and word limit. An essay coach provides the space for conversation encouraging reflection, digging deep to find content that truly expresses who students are. Once content is fully explored, then coaches guide the development of this content, and later essay structure and mechanics of student writing. As always, we strive to meet students where they are in the process and lend support to build confidence.
Private or Essay Workshop?
Students have the option to work with us 1:1 or join one of our essay workshops.
Essay workshops are best suited for students who will engage in a small group setting, are willing to be vulnerable and share their ideas with others, and can meet deadlines promptly.
FAQs - Unlimited Essay Package (Highly Selective Admissions)
There is no shortcut to a strong application. The students who benefit most from this package are those willing to reflect deeply, revise thoughtfully, and engage consistently. Our role is to guide that process—so students submit applications that truly represent who they are and what they bring.
-
“Unlimited” refers to the number of essays and revisions we support within the defined timeline. Students may work on as many essays as needed for their college list, including the Common App personal statement, multiple supplements, and UC Personal Insight Questions.
What it does not mean:
Essays are written for the student
Same-day or emergency turnaround
Rewriting essays due to repeated last-minute topic changes
The goal is depth and quality, not rushed output.
-
Highly selective applications require thoughtful writing, reflection, and revision. A December 20 completion date:
Prevents last-minute stress and rushed decisions
Allows time for polishing and review
Ensures essays are submitted with confidence
Finishing early improves quality and protects students during the busiest part of senior year.
-
Highly selective applicants often write 20–30+ essays across different platforms. When essays are handled one-by-one, students often:
Repeat themselves unintentionally
Lose narrative cohesion
Make strategic missteps across schools
This package ensures all essays work together to tell a consistent, authentic story.
-
No—and that’s intentional.
This package is best for students:
Applying to highly selective or highly rejective colleges
Writing many supplements across different schools/ Application portals
Needing strategic oversight, not just editing
Students applying to fewer schools may be better served by a smaller package.
-
Unlimited support assumes active student participation. We expect students to:
Meet agreed-upon deadlines
Come prepared to sessions
Engage with feedback
If deadlines are missed repeatedly, progress—and outcomes—may be impacted.
-
This package focuses exclusively on essays.
It does not include:
Activity list rewriting
Resume creation
Letters of recommendation
Interview preparation
Application form completion
These services can be added separately if needed.
-
Typical feedback turnaround is 1–2 business days, depending on essay length and time of year. During peak season, longer essays may take slightly more time to ensure thoughtful review.
-
This package reflects:
The volume and complexity of highly selective applications
The level of strategic oversight required
The extended time commitment across several months
Families aren’t paying for pages edited, they’re investing in clarity, confidence, and a cohesive application narrative.
