College Essay Workshops

As college essay mentors, we guide students in uncovering and shaping their unique narratives. Through thought-provoking questions and exercises, we help them reflect deeply on their experiences and aspirations. Our goal is to equip students with the skills to articulate not just what they have done, but why it matters—crafting essays that authentically reflect their lived experiences, personalities, and values. These workshops are ideal for students who thrive in a collaborative, small-group setting, where they can comfortably exchange ideas, provide feedback, and gain inspiration from their peers and mentors.

Reading & Discussion Seminar

(Reading Program for High School Students, Gr 9-10)

A Seminar for Early High School Students

As students move into more advanced coursework, they are expected to engage with increasingly complex material and apply reading and thinking skills more independently across subjects. This seminar is designed as an introduction to that kind of academic engagement. Students work with an instructor to read contemporary, non-fiction articles drawn from the New York Times, Bloomburg, the Economist, and other major new sources on topics such as finance, science/technology, education, law, and culture. Through guided discussion, students learn how to identify key ideas, understand evidence, and speak thoughtfully about unfamiliar topics.

In addition to strengthening academic skills, the seminar exposes students to real-world ideas and systems they may not yet have encountered. This allows students to begin noticing which topics spark curiosity and may be worth exploring further over time. The goal of this seminar is not mastery or decision-making, but comfort: helping students become more confident engaging with complex material while building a foundation for future academic work, standardized testing, and advising conversations.

Me, Myself & Miscellaneous

(Writing Program for High School Students, Gr 10-11)

How to Better Reflect and Write Expressively:

Not all essays have clear-cut answers- especially when the subject is you. Whether it’s a deeply personal reflection or a quirky prompt (think: “What’s so odd about odd numbers?”), many students find themselves unsure of where to begin. Me, Myself, and Miscellaneous is a course designed to guide students through the two trickiest essay challenges: writing about themselves and responding to unconventional questions.

In this course, high schoolers will learn how to write reflectively, think creatively, and express themselves with confidence and clarity. We'll explore how to find meaning in both the everyday and the extraordinary, build comfort with introspection, and tackle unpredictable, thought-provoking prompts. By the end of the course, students will have refined their voice, sharpened their argumentation skills, and become better prepared to reflect before responding to any prompt.

Understanding Highly Selective College Admissions
What competitive profiles really look like — and how to build one

Join us for this live parent webinar where we’ll break down:

 • How highly selective colleges actually review applications
 • What separates qualified from competitive students
 • How earlier choices quietly shape later outcomes

“Evan was accepted at almost every school he applied to and was offered financial aid at all those schools.  He was offered a full tuition scholarship/honors program at Messiah University which is a fit for him academically athletically and overall.  He was looking for a smaller school with a good community feel. While this school and a number of other he applied to are not among the most highly selective, I think his improved SAT score (790 math, 780 reading) was a big factor in getting financial aid offers and especially this full tuition offer.  He did also have to interview in person so I guess that went well 😊”
